Student Artwork 2019-2022

Pointilism Fruit

Students practice the style of pointillism, a technique of neo-impressionist painting using tiny dots of various pure colors, which become blended in the viewer's eye.

Students look at famous examples of pointillism by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.

Charcoal Pet portraits

Students learn how to grid a photo to be able to reproduce the image proportionately. They use their knowledge of charcoal gradient scales to add depth to their subjects. A slice of eraser is used to create a realistic hair/fur texture.

Blind COntours

Students are challenged to draw a portrait without looking at their hands/pencil or lifting up their hands, resulting in one continuous pencil line.

This practice helps students really observe what they are drawing without the concern of getting the image “right.” Every portrait will turn out wacky, allowing the students to step back from some of the personal expectations they may hold for themselves when it comes to art making.
